Gambling Addiction

What is Gambling Addiction?

Gambling addiction happens when the ‘high’ of betting overtakes all other considerations, for example how much we can afford to lose, and the effect our behaviour is having on our finances, relationships, and career.

Like substance abuse, gambling can be habit forming, and the excitement releases hormones into the bloodstream that make us crave bigger and bigger ‘hits’.

These cravings can override our normal rational responses and can make us behave irresponsibly, without consideration for our future wellbeing.

This can lead to higher and higher stakes being wagered, obsessive win chasing even after many losses, and selling items or borrowing money to fund gambling which can all lead to much anxiety and stress.

How can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy help with Gambling Addiction?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help with gambling addiction as your therapist will explain the psychological and physiological process involved – giving you perspective and empowering you to make positive changes.

You will have a safe space to explore your best hopes for a life free from gambling addiction.

Hypnotherapy can also help by reducing anxiety and stress around gambling and increasing confidence and self-esteem, enabling you to make more positive choices and be in control of any cravings or impulses.

It also stimulates production of the body’s own ‘feelgood’ hormones, helping you feel good without the artificial ‘hit’ of gambling.
