My name is Andy Hill, I am 53 years old and have been practising solution focused hypnotherapy since qualifying in 2020. In that time I've seen over 70 people ranging in ages from 10 to nearly 80 years old, from all sorts of backgrounds with all sorts of issues.
I absolutely love this work and feel alive when I am working with people and following the methods we were taught. There are four main reasons why I feel so motivated about being a hypnotherapist:
Firstly, people keep telling me that they feel so much better about themselves and their lives after having hypnotherapy. To me this feels remarkable, inspiring, and humbling every single time – it really does.
Secondly, the therapy is completely authentic and it is continually validated by neuroscientific findings. There is no psychobabble. There are no gimmicks, there is nothing to sell or persuade a person to do. We just help people connect back with the incredible power of their own mind.
Thirdly, people are fascinating. Everyone has their story and everyone has many more strengths and resources than they realise. In this therapy we believe in the person in front of us and know that in their heart of hearts, they do know what they need, how they want to feel and the steps they can take to get there.
Last but not least, the techniques we use have shown me that therapy and change doesn’t need to be painful or never ending. On the contrary, most people are seeing benefits within about 6 sessions and although we are dealing with very important issues, the sessions themselves are positive, often upbeat and we sometimes even laugh lightly at ourselves.

Supervision
As with all members of the AfSFH, I have regular supervision with a highly experienced therapist together with a group of other qualified practitioners. These are an amazing way to keep connected, updated and ask for advice and guidance.
Reading
I am an avid reader of anything related to hynotherapy, the brain and the mind. This ranges from early influencers like Emile Coue, Dave Elman, MIlton Erickson right through to modern day neuroscientists like John Ratey, David Eagleman and Ethan Kross. It also includes related subjects like moitivation and habit change.
Hypnotherapy myself
As a personal choice, I have hypnotherapy myself about once every two months, or more frequently if needed. This is always a great boost, an opportunity to experience the therapy from the other side and benefit from solution focused conversation and hypnosis.
20 years in the NHS
Previously I worked for 20 years as a manager in the NHS in Somerset and although this was demanding it gave me a thorough grounding in health related matters plus a masters degree, management training, project management, group work and meeting management skills and annual mandatory training including: data protection, safeguarding, health inequalities.
